It may be holiday time and the chance to escape from the classroom beckons, but this half-term Cardiff Castle is inviting children to enrol in a school with a difference - a special Knight School - where pens are replaced by swords! This is just one of the many activities laid on to keep children entertained throughout half- term. And if you have a Cardiff Castle Pass - all the week's events are free!
The activities start on Saturday 14 February, on the day of the mammoth match between Wales and England with the chance to Meet the Knights. Cardiff Castle will stage its own skirmish - a one-on-one combat display to rival the battle in the Millennium Stadium. Don't be surprised to see the action spill out beyond the Castle walls and into the street as the fervour takes hold and the knights slug it out to the end.
The Barber Surgeon pays a visit too, to regale you with The Marvels of Medieval Medicine on Sun 15 - Tues 17 February. Tales of the Black Death, how he treated battle wounds, set bones and pulled teeth - not to mention the blood letting and the leeches! Gory details of some rather blood-curdling techniques abound in this informative and enthralling workshop. Suitable for children - but not the faint hearted!
The Knight School opens for pupils on Wed 18 - Fri 20 February. All would - be knights will be put through their paces and can discover some of the cunning tricks of the trade employed on the medieval battlefield. Would you have the strength and guile to survive as a medieval knight? There will be a twice daily archery displays too from Sunday 15 - Friday 20 February.
And don't forget, make sure you get your Cardiff Castle Pass - and all the week's events will be free - visit as many times as you want to!
