The Castle grounds and Public Square will be closed all day on Sat, 15 May for Tafwyl but you can watch from home!


If you’re planning a trip in to Cardiff and would like a lovely spot to relax after hitting the shops, or you want to catch up with friends in a socially distanced setting, then come and use the public square in the beautiful setting of the Castle’s outer lawn.

Opening Hours

Mon –  Thu – 10:00 to 16:00
Fri – Sun – 09:00 to 18:00

Last entry one hour before closing.

The Public Square

Free access includes the:

  • Public Square
  • Castle Café (outdoor seating only)
  • Gift Shop
  • Visitor Information Point
  • Public toilets

A selection of meals, light bites and hot and cold drinks will be available at the Keep Terrace dining area.

Pop in to the Castle’s Gift Shop, where you will find a selection of lovely souvenirs as well as local produce.

Members of the pubic are welcome to bring in their own food and drink in to the Public Square. The Keep Dining seating area will remain closed until the restrictions on outdoor hospitality are relaxed.

Please remember to be considerate of other visitors, maintain the appropriate social distancing and use the hand sanitising facilities available at every opportunity.

We would kindly ask anybody to refrain from visiting if you have had any symptoms of illness (cough, sniffles, sore throat or fever), or have had contact with anybody who has been tested for COVID-19, in the last 14 days.
